Leaders?

I was listening to some old songs having the names of political leaders like Nehru, Gandhi, Shastri, Bhagat Singh and Subhas Chandra Bose. Manoj Kumar’s “PURAB AUR PACHHIM” mentions Nehru, Gandhi, Shastri, Subas in the song “Dulhan chali, haan pahen chali, Ho re dulhan chali, ho pahen chali teen rang ki choli Baagon mein laheraaye ganga jamuna, dekh ke duniya doli…”

Kavi Predeep has written this song for the film Jagriti,”Dedi humein azadi bina khadak bina dhal, Sabarmati ke sant tune kar diya kamal…” Of course this song is a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.

Another song from Jagriti,”aao bachchon tumhen dikhaayen jhaanki hindustaan ki, is mitti se tilak karo ye dharati hai balidaan ki” mentions Subhas Chandra Bose.
If lyricists has to write a patriotic songs today, what names they can write? I have a very low IQ. My mind doesn’t provide the name of a single political leader. Can someone suggest any name?

  1. i guess the only true worth mentioning leaders of India where frm the independence era. i dont say there is none now, but only tht they r not in politics

  2. Your point is understood, however, IMHO, the concept of patriotism is itself primitive. The new generation (India and abroad) would be better off learning about people who see the world as one home. They should be learning about global leaders.

  3. Maverick, I agree with you. And media is not very much interested in telling us about those.

Paradox, I am glad our personnels fighting Kargil war didn’t agree with you. 🙂 Or soldiers dying daily in “disturbed areas” protecting our lives don’t think like you. 🙂 If they start thinking like this we will again relive our medieval history of subjugated era, our neighbors will ensure that.

  4. I don’t think they haven’t reached thosed heights, but Arun Shourie, if you can call him one, is one such politician that commands my respect.

Suresh Prabhu -the ex Shiv Sena MP, was doing the terrific, honest and efficient job as Petroleum Minister in Vajpayee’s government, until he was recalled by Shiv Sena because he was not obliging his masters.

These two, yes. I will tell you more names if I can remember 🙂

  5. Jagmohan is another in continuation to Manish, Ex politician Nanaji Deshmukh is there, Shivraj Patil has a clean face (I think). But in a whole you are right in your view, Alka

  6. Manish, Praney I agree. You can add Nitish Kumar too to your list. His brother still has a black and white TV set at home. But media is too occupied with Lalu’s rustic charm. But the tragedy is these people don’t have an all India presence.
