  • Anna and the pseudo-democRats

A thought provoking blogpost by G Sampath at DNA:

In our lives as empowered citizens of the world’s largest democracy, how many times have we whined about corruption? Five times? 15 times? As long as we can remember? And how many times have we done anything about it? Not too many, on the evidence of the cascading scams of the past year, and all the years before that.

And yet, when a 73-year-old man decides to do something about it, you have these amazing rodent-like creatures coming out of the woodwork, expressing deep concerns about ‘subversion of democracy’.There is a name for such creatures: pseudo-democRats. They also have another name: status quoists. These creatures are so comfortable with things as they are — no matter how rotten, or perhaps because they are so rotten — that they don’t want change. They are the ‘democRatic’ avatars of Mubarak and Gaddafi who wouldn’t want to exchange the joy of whining about corruption for a chance to fight corruption, in however limited a manner. Such as through an ombudsman as envisaged by the Jan Lokpal Bill.

It should be obvious even to a first standard kid that you cannot ask a robber to draft a law against robbery. But today, we have these worthies arguing that the only way to address corruption is through elected ‘least tainted’ representatives — all else is undemocratic.

The only kind of democracy they recognize is one that is exercised once in five years, through the formal, controllable channel of the ballot box. Grassroots democracy that brings people’s issues to the government — such as the Medha Patkar-led Narmada Bachao Andolan or the people’s movement against the nuclear plant in Jaitapur — are sought to be discredited as not representing the will of the people. So who are these protesters? Well, they need to be given a suitable label in order to be discredited and disposed of. Let’s see.

Can you call them terrorists? Not really — terrorists don’t do fast-unto-death (one eminent pseudo-democRat did suggest that Anna’s fast-unto-death was suicide bombing in slow motion). Can you call them Maoists? No, they were armed only with candles.

So how about calling them ‘activists’? They are obviously not people, and since they haven’t won an election, they’re not qualified to speak for the people — whatever that means. Is it possible for any ‘member’ of the people to speak at all — as one of the people — without seeming to ‘speak for’ the people? No.

So who can speak for the people? Well, according to the pseudo-democRat, that is a privilege reserved solely for elected representatives such as Sharad Pawar, Suresh Kalmadi, A Raja and BS Yeddyurappa. It doesn’t matter whether two thousand people join a protest movement or two hundred thousand, protesters will always be ‘activists’ and therefore non-people. Even if a billion Indians speak with one united voice, unless they’re expressing their preference for one crook over another inside a polling booth, they will be deemed as speaking for the remaining 0.21 billion people and therefore subverting democracy.

In their scheme of things, ‘the people’ (who nobody but the elected representative can legitimately represent) come into existence when there is an election, and once the elections are over, conveniently melt away into nothingness. If they make the mistake of materialising anytime, anywhere other than during an election — say, to tell their elected representatives that they don’t want this steel plant in Orissa, or plead against an SEZ on their farmland, or a mine in their mountain — they are immediately relieved oftheir status as people. In short, they become a threat to democracy. Reflecting faithfully the concerns of the state, the pseudo-democRat has taken to heart Brecht’s sarcastic suggestion on what to do when people lose faith in their elected government: dissolve the people and elect another.

In fact, the primary purpose achieved by elections in India is to lend an aura of legitimacy to the oligarchy that has our elected representatives in its pocket. This voter-generated legitimacy is what enables the government to pass anti-people legislations in the name of the people — subversion of democracy in the non-laughable sense of the term.

Whatthe pseudo-democRat is anxious to cover up is the plain fact that elected representatives can consistently act against the interests of those they represent — and there is NOTHING that a citizen, acting only as a voter, can do to stop them. It is this belated realisation that drove the less cynical sections of the middle class to rally around Anna.

An election is only one of many kinds of democratic processes. But the pseudo-democRat loves it to the exclusion of every other democratic mechanism Why? Because an election is a process that the state can control from start to finish. True democracy — something those who accuse Anna of blackmail really fear — is about sharing power, sharing control, and holding the powerful accountable for their power, and not only through means that have the prior approval of the state.

For all its flaws, and the flaws of its leaders, the Lokpal movement is an encouraging example of participatory democracy — a process that is open to anyone who cares enough about an issue to want to join in — as many middle class Indians did.

Democracy is a lived reality — not some codified entity that will be interpreted (for the people?) by self-appointed constitutional experts and newspaper columnists. If the Lokpal turns out to be a ‘Frankenstein monster’ (am I to believe that no ‘monster’ has ever won an election?), then it will not survive. The very people who supported Anna Hazare will fight it and throw it out.

To be sure, the Lokpal Bill, in whatever form, is unlikely to eradicate corruption, for the simple reason that corruption is only a symptom of a structural rot in our casteist society and fractured polity where, even as lip service is paid to political equality, almost every aspect of policy is geared to increase economic inequality. Unless there are many political mass movements — as opposed to one ‘civil society initiative’ — for policies and laws aimed at a more equitable society, corruption won’t go away, no matter how powerful the Lokpal is.

But does this mean that we’d rather not have had the Hazare-inspired campaign? No. The value of the candle-wallas rallying around Anna is to prove — to ourselves — that it is possible for the apathetic, solipsistic Indian middle class to shake off its cynicism and mobilise for a cause. This would be an invaluable lesson, and much-needed inspiration, as things get worse in the future.

  • Blame it On Anna Hazare

    Anna-Hazare
    Anna Hazare, our Gandhi

Image Source and Poem: Shivam Gupta
I am guilty of meddling with the title of the movie, ‘Blame It On Rio’ and giving the title Blame it On Anna Hazare, but my sentiments and feelings are quite pure, not muddled. I was trying to write a post every day and narrate here what I did to feel happy. But a series of Birthdays prevented me from writing anything here. When all the birthdays of March and April were over, and I was about to breathe easy, Anna Hazare happened. What A man Anna Hazare is.

When Anna Hazare started his movement against corruption, I was quite sure that I will resume writing my blog posts again. But when Anna Hazare’s movement against corruption started, I never thought that I will ignore everything, my home, my husband, my kid, myself and get involved in this movement on daily basis. But of course, that is Anna Hazare’s effect. And whole nation witnessed it.

Anna Hazare has refreshed the forgotten history, civics and politics lessons of school. We were taught about democracy in schools. We were also taught about the duties of a citizen in school books. But after leaving school, we never applied those duties in our lives. We thought REAL world is different, But Anna Hazare helped us turning into a awakened citizen. Anna Hazare taught us, democracy is not about exercising your power to vote, He taught us the forgotten lesson of being a watchdog to government’s actions. After casting your valuable votes, our duties don’t stop there. We have to be vigilant. We have to observe whether our elected representatives are performing their duties as expected. We need a Anna Hazare to revisit that civics lesson.

Anna Hazare taught us that demonstrations, protests marches, rallies, writing articles, formation of organizations are legitimate means to show your displeasure to the government. And we rose to the occasion. My nephew, my husband prepared posters for Anna Hazare’s movement. I distributed those posters at various public places and put on the notice boards of our society. We tried to do our bit for Anna Hazare’s campaign.

I can declare proudly and in all humility that Anna Hazare made me eat my words. And I am proud to eat my words. I often used to say and write that our people won’t come out of their houses to protest. I used to feel disappointed with youngsters. But Anna Hazare has done the impossible. He fired the imagination of youths and in large number they came out on the streets to protests. Even schoolchildren were out on the streets to protest against corruption. It is very difficult to bring Indian youths on the street to protest, but Gandhian follower Anna Hazare almost did the impossible.

How Anna Hazare proved me wrong. I wrote this post: Libyan Crisis, People in Pursuit of Happiness At the end of the post I was ruing that Indians won’t leave the confines of their homes to come out on the street and protest. But Anna Hazare has achieved the impossible. In the last para I have written, we don’t have a Gandhi to draw us out of our homes. But I was wrong. We too have our Gandhi, Anna Hazare, and WE REALLY ARE THE GRANDCHILDREN of Gandhi, whenever he calls, we leave everything and pay heed to that call. Thank you Anna Hazare for giving us a call.

  • Our Heroes : Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev

    Bhagat-Singh-Sukhdev-Rajguru
    Bhagat-Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru

“Lovers, Lunatics and poets are made of same stuff.”
    — Bhagat Singh

Today, March 23rd is the Martyrdom of Sardar Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev. When I read the above quote by Bhagat Singh, I thought he himself was made of that same stuff that’s why he was able to make supreme sacrifice for his motherland at the age of 24. If he was rational thinking he must have marketed “sacrifices done by his family” and ensured dynastic rule in the guise of democracy.

I was wondering if they come back in today’s India what would they think of us? What would be their views on today’s politicians and bureaucrats? What would he think about today’s youth? What will Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru think about their ultimate sacrifice?

Would BHagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev feel ashamed that we had given supreme sacrifice so that A. Raja can flourish, Klmadi can make us the laughing stock in front of the world? Not a single flat was allotted to the martyrs in Adarsh Housing Socity? Would Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev feel that their martyrdom has gone in vein? Now instead of Britishers, we are humiliated, looted and raped by our own politicians? Had they dreamed about today’s India?
What was in Bhagat Singh’s mind when he willing went to gallows for us? We can see a glimpse here:
“The aim of life is no more to control the mind, but to develop it harmoniously; not to achieve salvation here after, but to make the best use of it here below; and not to realise truth, beauty and good only in contemplation, but also in the actual experience of daily life; social progress depends not upon the ennoblement of the few but on the enrichment of democracy; universal brotherhood can be achieved only when there is an equality of opportunity – of opportunity in the social, political and individual life.— from Bhagat Singh’s prison diary, p. 124”

After reading this, I know what our martyrs Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and SUkhdev will think. They will get up to fight again, this time the enemy is in our own house, no outsiders.

  • Being Happy Day 9 : Supreme Court Zindabad

The above ad aptly sums up India and Indians.

Hope is the key to happiness. When I look at the conduct of those who are in public life I often feel despair, frustration. anger, helplessness and what not. BUt Supreme Court of India has today given us some H-O-P-E. All is not lost. We are not that helpless. We have a spineless vertebrate s PM. What he does as PM is wait helplessly and watch helplessly and sit helplessly and speak helplessly. HE IS AN EPITOME OF HELPLESSNESS. The cherry on the icing is he terms his helplessness as symbol of H-O-N-E-S-T-Y. Today the Supreme Court of India has given the well deserved long due resounding slap to his pseudo honesty.

Today I am really happy that at least there are some institutions in our country that works. Apart from armed forces, Supreme Court seems to be the only institution of the India that seems to work.
This headlines aptly sums up “CVC verdict: Another blow to Caesar’s wife” It says,

“The Supreme Court striking down the appointment of Central Vigilance Commissioner PJ Thomas and his subsequent resignation on Thursday is yet another blow for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and a major one for the UPA government.

The ruling is likely to put the UPA government on the mat and in a very embarrassing position. Not that it cares, but it will definitely be a major blot on Manmohan Singh’s image. This is the third time that the Supreme Court has tweaked at the ears of Singh – the 2G spectrum and the CWG being the earlier occasions.

Like Caesar’s wife, Singh should have been above suspicion in the case of Thomas’. In this case, the Prime Minister is personally culpable.

Remember what Singh said during the Congress party’s plenary session in December last? “Like Caesar’s wife, I should be above suspicion”.”

Hope works as fire for our lives. But we the citizens of third world country is deprived of such hope. But still we find certain people who dares to take a stand and FIGHT and keep our hope alive. Nothing gives me more happiness to write about such persons or institutes.

  • Libyan Crisis : People in Pursuit of Happiness

Today I was in better shape. In the morning I didn’t have problem focusing on positive thoughts and feeling peaceful. I have not burn a CD yet. But I am selecting songs I like.

Today I was watching news. I like watching news and reading newspapers whenever I find time. It is one of the best ways to expand the horizons of your thoughts. Admiring others also gives you motivation and happiness. Today my thoughts are with the people of Libya and Libyan crisis. I am not saying that the events of violence are a source of happiness for me. But their courage, grit, determination, stamina to fight a dictator and their optimism to give a better future to coming generation has certainly left me in awe of Libyan people.

Sometimes for being happy you have to offer your blood, sweat, happiness, past, present and future and what not. These types of traits are not possessed by normal people. Sometimes one generation has to offer themselves so that future generations can enjoy happiness. Libyans are showing such rare traits.

USA has shown apprehension that Colonel Gaddafi might burn oil wells of Libya and order his troops to break the pipelines. But it is not deterring Libyans to fight for a better life and future. A report says, “There, more than 100 people were killed as Colonel Gaddafi’s forces turned automatic weapons on a mosque filled with rebels, a witness said. Still, residents rallied afterward to protest. “

Hats off to their courage and valor. I wish that Libyan people will be able to overthrow this dictator of 41 years and move ahead to a new and bright future. As the courage and determination of Libyan leaves me happy and gives a hope that all is not lost. My heart is also filled with joy that I am living in an era witnessing rare courage and sacrifice.

BUT, what about us? Do we love our children? Sadly the answer is a big NO. We hardly get bothered by law and order, pollution, corruption, price rise, environment, functioning of our leaders, bureaucracy and police. We hardly follow traffic rules and pollution laws. We rarely plant tress. We hardly go out and protest against farmers which use pesticides and spraying alcohol on vegetables and paddy. We hardly acknowledge that we are facing such problems. We feel very enlightened by just educating our kids or sending them to some phoren university. THAT’S ALL.

We too have shown courage like Libyans. But today we don’t have a Gandhi to draw us out of out homes. Today the kind of Gandhis we have can’t even draw us out to our nearest streets, even if it is few yards away. We might be drinking our tea at that time. We can’t sacrifice a cup of tea to for our kids.

  • What Ratan Tata did for the Mumbai victims

    Ratan_Tata

Ratan Tata (Image Source: Business News)

What Ratan Tata did for the Mumbai victims of 26/11…. a every Indian should know. i AM COPY PASTING THIS POST FROM Small Strokes… Why main stream media is not interested in publishing this? I leave it to figure it out yourself.

Ratan Tata is the chairman of Indian Hotels who own the Taj Mahal Hotel Mumbai, which was the target of the terrorists last year . Hotel President a 5 star property also belongs to Indian Hotels.
    The following is really touching.

    • All category of employees including those who had completed even 1 day as casuals were treated on duty during the time the hotel was closed.
    • Relief and assistance to all those who were injured and killed
    • The relief and assistance was extended to all those who died at the railway station, surroundings including the “Pav- Bha ji” vendor and the pan shop owners.
    • During the time the hotel was closed, the salaries were sent by money order.
    • A psychiatric cell was established in collaboration with Tata Institute of Social Sciences to counsel those who needed such help.
    • The thoughts and anxieties going on people’s mind was constantly tracked and where needed psychological help provided.
    • Employee outreach centers were opened where all help, food, water, sanitation, first aid and counseling was provided. 1600 employees were covered by this facility.
    • Every employee was assigned to one mentor and it was that person’s responsibility to act as a “single window” clearance for any help that the person required.
    • Ratan Tata personally visited the families of all the 80 employees who in some manner – either through injury or getting killed – were affected.
    • The dependents of the employees were flown from outside Mumbai to Mumbai and taken care off in terms of ensuring mental assurance and peace. They were all accommodated in Hotel President for 3 weeks.
    • Ratan Tata himself asked the families and dependents – as to what they wanted him to do.
    • In a record time of 20 days, a new trust was created by the Tatas for the purpose of relief of employees.
    • What is unique is that even the other people, the railway employees, the police staff, the pedestrians who had nothing to do with Tatas were covered by compensation. Each one of them was provided subsistence allowance of Rs. 10K per month for all these people for 6 months.
    • A 4 year old granddaughter of a vendor got 4 bullets in her and only one was removed in the Government hospital. She was taken to Bombay hospital and several lacs were spent by the Tatas on her to fully recover her.
    • New hand carts were provided to several vendors who lost their carts.
    • Tata will take responsibility of life education of 46 children of the victims of the terror.
    • This was the most trying period in the life of the organisation. Senior managers including Ratan Tata were visiting funeral to funeral over the 3 days that were most horrible.
    • The settlement for every deceased member ranged from Rs. 36 to 85 lacs [One lakh rupees translates to approx 2200 US $ ] in addition to the following benefits:

    a. Full last salary for life for the family and dependents;
    b. Complete responsibility of education of children and dependents – anywhere in the world.
    c. Full Medical facility for the whole family and dependents for rest of their life.
    d. All loans and advances were waived off – irrespective of the amount.
    e. Counselor for life for each person
    1. How was such passion created among the employees? How and why did they behave the way they did?
    2. The organisation is clear that it is not something that someone can take credit for. It is not some training and development that created such behaviour. If someone suggests that – everyone laughs
    3. It has to do with the DNA of the organisation, with the way Tata culture exists and above all with the situation that prevailed that time. The organisation has always been telling that customers and guests are #1 priority
    4. The hotel business was started by Jamshedji Tata when he was insulted in one of the British hotels and not allowed to stay there.
    5. He created several institutions which later became icons of progress, culture and modernity. IISc is one such institute. He was told by the rulers that time that he can acquire land for IISc to the extent he could fence the same. He could afford fencing only 400 acres. He also made a condition that the TATA name should not be used (ironical in a country where half the roads and buildings bear Gandhi tag although they may not even have seen them)
    6. When the HR function hesitatingly made a very rich proposal to Ratan – he said – do you think we are doing enough?
    7. The whole approach was that the organisation would spend several hundred crore in re-building the property – why not spend equally on the employees who gave their life?
This was not covered by any news channel. The channels are busy showing cast politics, Sania Mirza’s wedding, Shahrukh Khan’s wedding. But these stories need to be told to the nation.

  • Villagers Pooled in Their Own Money to Construct Their Railway Halt

When I picked up the Hindi newspaper Dainik Jagran,  Among the maze of depressing news of Arushi Talwar, Indians being attacked / murdered in Australia, Rathore being booked in Ruchika’s case, I was pleasantly surprised to read a particular news from Taj Nagar, HaryanaDulhaniyan aayi, Khushiyan Laayee. But instead of the photograph of a usual shy Indian bride, I saw the photograph of a train. My mind naturally constructed the usual story that finally the Indian Railways’ might have woken up from its deep slumber to construct a railway station at some obscure village where people still have to bear the burnt of the middle age facilities.

But my eyes popped out of my socket and I had a lump in my throat. We city bred horses who mostly knew to consume incessantly and scorn at our own fellow citizens in the name of religion, state and language, this is something out of a movie script.  Villagers from Taj Nagar near Gurgaon, Haryana have created history by constructing their own railway halt and showed a middle finger to the Aam Aadmi Ki Sarkar. As usual the officials from babudom kingdom were sellping and matter was dragging incessantly by railways. The villagers have the dignity to get UPSET. They started collecting funds and succeeded in raising the amount of Rs.25 lakh. Indian railways didn’t spend even a penny. An obscure Indian Rajkumar donated Rs. 4 Lakh and he was instrumental in mobilizing funds and constructing railway platform in Taj Nagar. Earlier the villagers had to cover a distance of three kilometers to board a train. Probably famous poet Mohammed Iqbal had written those likes for people like Rak Kumar. Due to various unsung and unnamed Rajkumars we are still considered as a Nation.

  • N. D Tiwari and John F. Kennedy in Their Birthday Suits

N.D.Tiwari, ex-Governor of Andhra Pradesh has succeeded in doing the unthinkable. Read this: ND Tiwari beats Tiger Woods in Google  So what if we lag miles behind in producing a Tiger Woods in golf field. Indians can match Tiger Woods or John F Kennedy in “extra curricular” activities. Same is true here. N.D. Tiwari may not match John Kennedy in politics and diplomacy but … So we Indians should not lose hope in our politicians. They are matching the basic carnal steps with world class athletes or politicians. Hope they will rise above basic needs one day and catch up with them in tougher fields too. Till that date, we can amuse ourselves with the song “We shall overcome.” 🙂

Today I viewed a  snap of ex-President John F. Kennedy. Where every member on the boat was in his/her birthday suits.

There are numerous articles and books on President John F. Kennedy which mention a 2-week, Mediterranean boating trip that JFK — then a Senator — took in August, 1956, with his brother Ted Kennedy and Senator George Smathers. The trio reportedly entertained a number of women on the yacht.

I was quite curious to know what Jacqueline Kennedy was doing at that time? As a pativrata naari, was she blind to all this? It seems she was busy in propagating this man’s seeds on this earth. 🙂

Jackie Kennedy was pregnant at the time and was rushed to the hospital while JFK was on the boat. Doctors performed an emergency C-section, but the infant was stillborn.

Its really interesting to know how complex we human beings are. 🙂

  • Behavior of Our Leaders!

Sonia Furious As Congress Makes Mockery of Dalit Agenda

On 2nd Occtober, Congressmen were celebrating Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday by spending nights at the house of a Dalit villagers in their constituencies. What these congressmen did? Read for yourself.

Sriprakash Jaiswal, Kanpur MP and a minister of state, had fans running on generators as he slept on a hired foam mattress.

Kamal Kishore, Lok Sabha member from Bahraich, gorged on chicken.

Moradabad MP Mohammad Azharuddin ate in solitary splendour from a disposable plate.

“Villagers complained that one celebrity Congress MP, former Indian cricket captain Mohammed Azharuddin, snubbed his hosts by rejecting their food and refused to shake hands with the Dalit village elder.

Witnesses said when the elder of Khadar village approached him to offer him a poori – a deep-fried chapati – the celebrated former batsman refused to allow him near while his supporters jostled him away.”

Faizabad MP Nirmal Khatri’s food was prepared by a hired cook.

Only a few — such as Jiten Prasada, MP from Dhaurahra — emulated Rahul by eating what they were offered and sleeping on a cot.

  • Mont Blanc’s Gandhi Pen

    Gandhiji1

    Mahatma Gandhi (Image Source: ajaygoel.in)

How can the person standing in the above picture can be a model for a product costing around Rs. 12 lakhs?  How can this person compete with the iron pumping, gym totting, six pack abs flouting super cool dudes? Why can’t the Harvard or Wharton MBA ad gurus think of a supermodel or super rich dues from their world to sold their pen and earn profit?

“In the run-up to the Mahatma’s 140th birth anniversary, Mont Blanc International designed a luxury fountain pen to commemorate the Dandi March. Launched on September 29, the limited edition consists of 241 pens costing Rs 11.39 lakh each. Crafted in solid white gold, it bears a sketch of Gandhiji on the nib, apart from carrying his signature. Each piece is accompanied by saffron-coloured ink, a booklet of Bapu‘s quotes and an eight-metre long golden thread that, when wound around the pen, resembles the spindle of the spinning wheel. Another version consists of 3,000 fountain pens and as many roller pens, each costing between Rs 1.47 lakh and Rs 1.67 lakh”.

On 2nd October, the birthday of Mohandas Karamchand  Gandhi and India’s ex-PM Lal Bahadur Shastri (he is not THAT profitable), the people saw this billboard adorning their roads.

    Gandhiji

Billboard of Mahatma Gandhi and Mont Balnc pen in New Delhi (Image Source: newsday.com )

Why corporate giants have to need 2nd October and Mahatma Gandhi as their model to earn profit? Why not they hang someone’s picture who was born with silver, no, no, with platinum spoon and enjoyed all the luxuries of life? Didn’t have to toil for a day in his life and had everything at his disposal. Why not celebrate his birthday and launch a pen to mark his birth anniversary?  I don’t think the person shown in the picture had gone to a men’s beauty parlor or gym even for an hour in his life? In fact, I remember, in South Africa once a white barber refused to cut his hair! i don’t know why people don’t leave Mahatma alone. He is very  different from what we are seeking today in life and no one’s ideal. Its high time that we leave him in peace which he deserve.

  • Attack on Indians in Australia

I was just wondering what MNS supremo Mr. Raj Thackeray has to say about these incidents in Australia. He might say that Indians sorry Maharashtrians shouldn’t go to Australia or any other place in this world. They should stay in Maharashtra.

  • $10 Laptop? Really?

I was ecstatic while reading about $10 laptop at International Business Times. After all, this $10 laptop will spread the use of technology and internet to common man . We were going to challenge MIT who developed a laptop at the cost of $100. India showcases low-cost laptop to bridge digital divide

The low-cost device, developed jointly by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Chennai, and Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, for the human resource development (HRD) ministry, is aimed at bridging the digital divide and making access to computer literacy affordable to the masses.

I often think that when I want the advice of a grandmother or grandfather or parents, internet often fill the vacuum as far as information is concerned. But what I read today about $10 laptop?
    Govt’s much-awaited $10 laptop turns out be a joke

The talk of the “invention” had raised expectations of bridging the technological divide between rural and urban India. Talking to TOI, a Professor from Sri Venkateswara University said (on the condition of anonymity), “How can just a computing device bridge the digital divide and make access to computer literacy affordable to the masses? Where will poor students get computers to jack this gizmo with? Will MHRD provide computers and internet connectivity in rural and remote areas? There is no clarity among the officials themselves,” he said.

I think as long as the HRD Minister Arjun Singh’s image is intact as Social Equality Guru and his party’s “prototype” is unchallenged as “secular”, our image in international community as buffoons (with due apology to buffoons) hardly matters! Jai Ho $10 laptop!

I read this screaming headline. Girls assaulted at Mangalore pub

The activists of Sri Rama Sena entered the Amnesia Bar and Restaurant on Dr Shivaram Karanth Road on Saturday evening and threatened the women sitting inside. The men, who took objection to women drinking alcohol, pushed them outside, many women falling to the ground while they were being driven out.

Well what happened at Mangalore is a condemnable incident and events like this shouldn’t happen in a liberal society. But I am wondering about one thing. What the cool dudes accompanying these hapless girls were doing? Or for a change imagine, that these girls were visiting the bar alone or in a group. But what were the males present in Mangalore bar having higher conscious level than these hooligans were doing? Watching those girls being beaten up and pushed around? Or they were thinking on the similar lines of the goons of Sri Ram Sena, since they were drinking so they deserve such treatment? Come on cool dudes, you must had outnumbered those gundas at the Mangalore bar. So where were your biceps at that time?

What the media was doing apart from filming the Mangalore bar incident? Capturing the Sri Ram Sena’s Ravans’ act was more important than dialing to police? Where was that type of chest beating when Taslima Nasreen was attacked? Do they ever understand that this kind of selective reporting takes away their credibility?

  • Dehradoon is in Mumbai!

I just realized that Dehradoon, Bangalore, Kozhikode and countless other towns are suburbs of Mumbai and each and every member of NSG, Army, Navy, ATS, Air Force and each and every MARCOS are Marathi and Marathi only. Actually they all reported to this lady Sharmila Thackeray, wife of Raj Thackeray and registered their hometown in her register she regularly maintains. Till now I have not realized that Sharmila Thackeray has access to such information. She knows the state and hometown of each and every soldier and commandos. In what authority and capacity Raj Thackeray’s wife Sharmila Thackeray has such information, we don’t know. Ms. Thackeray has sent an SMS TO Amitabh Bachchan.

Amitabh Bachchan who usually expresses his thoughts and feelings through his blogs, sent me an SMS on Monday afternoon. Visibly angry and frustrated, the “angry young man” of Indian cinema forwarded an SMS that was sent to him by Sharmila Thackeray, wife of Raj Thackeray.

It read, “All those who had lost their lives while saving this city are Marathis. MNS workers are busy donating blood, helping police for rescue operations and lifting bodies.”

I sincerely hope that terrorists don’t get hold of the register Raj Thackeray’s wife maintains. I think now Raj Thackeray’s wife should meet Ambassadors of different countries and convince them that they are wasting their time in Mumbai searching for their nationals. Only Marathis had died in this terror attacks. I am wondering whether attackers too were Marathis in this all Marathi drama?
What Amitabh has to say in all this?

“Can they stoop any lower! After cowering underground while citizens of all nationalities were dying and the others being rescued by the NSG, the navy and the army…this is what they have to say!”

Yes, Mr. Bachchan, they will stoop to conquerer! In this process they will always set a new “low” for themselves.

  • What Our “Leaders” are Saying/Doing

Futrure Hope of India, Prince of Congress, Rahul Gandhi: He is our only hope, Congressmen told us repeatedly. Read here, what he was doing.

The Prince partied hard, till 5 in the morning, on Sunday at the ‘sangeet’ for the forthcoming wedding of Samir Sharma, his childhood friend. They were at a sprawling farmhouse at Radhey Mohan Chowk, the haven of people who lead charmed lives beyond Chhatarpur.
The Prince seemed to be completely out of sync with the mood of the nation post-26/11. Since Wednesday night, officials have been cancelling parties they were meant to host and even restaurants called off special events.

Of course chiiling out with pals is above all. and he is above those petty officials and restaurant owners! See the press people’s ball. They are questioning the sacred Madam’s progeny!! They should be hanged for this.

R.R. Patil: Jewel in the Crown: When a 20 something boy from Bihar was in a BEST bus with a country made pistol Katta, this brave person R.R. Patil has roared, “Goli ka zawab goli se diya jayega (bullet for bullet).” When Mumbai was seized by terrorists what pearls of wisdom came out from this Ex home minister of Maharashtra,R.R. Patil,

“Itne bade shahar me ekhada hadsa ho jata hai” (An untoward incident like this can happen in such a big city like Mumbai). ” We are proud of you Mr. Patil.

We meed more and more people like you in this country.

  • We Respect Our Security Personnels

Kerala CM Achuthanandan: He broke in into the house of Major Sandeep Unnikrishanan to offer his condolences. What a way to empathize with a father. Later on what he said about this whole incident?

“If it had not been (Major) Sandeep’s house, not even a dog would have glanced that way,” he said when turned away at the door by Unnikrishnan’s father.

    Here is today’s update:

A day after Kerala Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan insulted the family of martyred NSG Commando Sandeep Unnikrishnan, he refused to apologise for the denigrating remark.

“No, no,” is all he said when journalists confronted him with the question.

We can certainly learn manners from this gentleman.

Another comerde of CPI Atul Anzan said on Zee News: “Mr. Unnikrishanan has lost his mental balance.”
Of course Mr. Unnikrishanan was working in ISRO. I hope our leaders know the full form of ISRO. The mentally imbalanced scientists keep on putting India on world technology map. Recently these mentally imbalanced persons were in news for Chandrayaan-1. Does India needs such mentally imbalanced people? This organization ISRO should be dismantled and with this money, poverty should be eradicated, which is the topmost agenda of CPI.

  • Problem with Lipstick!

See if you want to be the champion of a cause don’t try to look good. Your cause will suffer. Applying make up is a crime if you are carrying out a march. You don’t represent India. That what BJP’s Vice President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi thinks.

“Some women wearing lipstick and powder have taken to streets in Mumbai and are abusing politicians spreading dissatisfaction against democracy. This is what terrorists are doing in Jammu and Kashmir.”

He said “in difficult times like these” some groups have decided to “wage a war against democracy” rather than waging war against the menace of terror.

What if you are a news reader in a broadcast media? You are reading false news!

  • Raj Thackeray and North Indians

Mr. Raj Thackeray was in news. It was obvious he doesn’t like lock ups or jails. But what is surprising is his lawyer’s name who was in the limelight most the time, Mr. Akhilesh Chube. What a North Indian sounding name! Or probably when one’s *ss is truly in danger of being grilled, North, South, East or West Indians don’t matter. Vageesh Saraswat, the MNS vice-president is also from Aligarh, probably a north Indian town. Few weeks ago Mr. Raj Thackeray had organized a computer software course for Maharashtrian Youths. The head instructor was Saurabh Mishra.
But Manish Chauhan has written a pretty interesting account on this ongoing sub nationalism plaguing modern metrosexual Indians. His target is Shahrukh Khan. 🙂

Shahrukh Khan is in trouble. He calls himself a Delhi boy, which he duly is, but Bal Thackray insists now he is not because Mumbai has given him wealth and fame. Though at the same time, he also insists that Sonia Gandhi is still an Italian, a Videshi.

Shahrukh must be disoriented by now about his existence. Myself sailing on the same damn boat. Join the notorious club. Who knows, someone might club us all.

I repeat, Bal Thackray insists since it is Mumbai and Maharashtra which has given him wealth and fame so why does he harp about being a Delhi boy.

As if, as soon as he touched Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, or shall I say Bhusawal, almost magically, someone started giving him all his wealth – to make him rich, and concurrently, someone else (or the same guy perhaps) started calling his name on AIR, to make him famous.

Applying the theory of mathematical induction (though I never came across a bigger fraudulent theory), every one making money or name in Maharashtra started doing in the same manner. Well, not every body, though. Some of them were beaten black and blue right on landing at the Kalyan & Kurla station. However, rest get it for free, by almost doing nothing.

It may also be that all the movie audience of Shahrukh Khan is from Mumbai and Maharashtra only. Rest of India and world are not counted. It is already known that he dances at the ceremonies of Netas to earn quick bucks. So this settles it.

Mahindra and Mahindra, Telco, Bajaj sell all their vehicles only in Mumbai and rest of Maharashtra. So those workers who come here and work should also pay their homage and respect for their bread and butter, and to their very existence, only to Maharashtra.

Had there been no Maharashtra, who would have created these vehicles and much worse, who would have bought them, isn’t it ? Anyway it is not their work which is bringing them money. They are being paid only for the fact that they have entered Maharashtra.

It is God’s will that they were born to move into Maharashtra in future. Was this not tobe, may be God would have cancelled the order. That’s why, my dear Shahrukh, you ain’t no Delhi boy. You were desitined to come here, and that’s why you were concieved (or else it would have been someone else in your place). You are now Mee-Mumbai-Maharashtra boy.

Now let us all say in chorus – Jai Maharashtra!
