AIIMS Vs Health Ministry

When I heard news about AIIMS doctors not getting their degrees due to Anbumani Ramadoss, a Health Minister under Manmohan Singh. The current Tommy (PM) only shouts when Madamji orders him,”Tommy bark!” and never bites. His teeth were taken out by madamji to lock safely. Now it seems that Madamji has told Tommy Manmohan to heel. That’s the case with him most of the time. So this PM is resting on his …you know where..while his health minister is running amok.

What a common man expect from a Health Minister? New health plans? Tackling AIDS? How medical services can be availed by the remotest villages? But we hear nothing of that sort from this Indian Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss. What we keep on hearing is his new policies (?)regarding AIIMS director Dr. Venugopal and schemes how to humiliate and sack this world renowned heart specialist. We are known to humiliate and erode great talents of our nation.

It happened with Dr. Har Gobind Khorana who was awarded Nobel Prize for medicine in 1968. But here in India he was found unfit for the job of a lecturer. It happens only in India.

Dr. Khorana is very famous in his native Punjab and a short story about his early career is taught widely at the high school level. It details his efforts to find a teaching or research job in Punjab after getting his Ph.D. and how he was unable to find a job despite his excellent credentials since he did not have political “pull” needed for such jobs. The story ends in a sentence that is now legendary in Punjab : “Mr. Khorana, the job was yours and we were about to sign the offer letter but then the Minister called and recommended his nephew and….”. Dr. Khorana returned to Liverpool shortly thereafter and never returned to work in Punjab.

The Ministers have not changed much since then. We are still paying for the whims of these sarkari damads (sons-in-law).

  1. true, despite the economy boom n everything i dont even see a ray of hope in this direction. i just hope one day it’ll all change, but how far is that day is the question.

  2. That’s so true again,Alka…I guess the one thing the hon’ble minister will do is, increase seats for backward classes who’re not really backward anymore.Hence, we’ll have more doctors who could not pass Std X, but, who’re now medicos, out to prove again that life has no value in our country.

  3. It would also be proper to reflect if we as individuals also do the right things when required. After all, the leaders are from amongst us and reflect the general mindset in general. Isnt sycophancy prevalent almost everywhere? Dont we as Indians in general have a subservient attitude?

(P.S. I used to blog sometime back. There are no new posts.)

  4. Hi1 Alka,I share much of your sentiments. Have you ever heard of small men in big shoes? Ramu’s Dossa is the example.

Any way please do not insult ‘Tommy’.OK?
    PI.

  5. I agree with you full heartedly Alka, but dont be too rude for poor fellow 🙂

LOL. I remember a comic make of Nach Baleye at Star One Laugh Show where Manmohan Singh is asked to dance and he calls up ‘Madam’ asking for her permission:) How true otherwise too.

  6. Maverick, yes I too hope things will change in future.

AmitL, all the political parties are playing this game. See who brings out the mother of all reservations.

Paradox, you are right. And AIIMS doctors are exactly doing the same what you have written here. The court has shown the minister its place several times. But these ministers seem quite thick skinned.

  7. Prudent Indian, you are right. I have no business insulting Tommy. 🙂 I’ll be careful in future.

Praney, This PM is quite sissy without any guts and intelligence. He is born without a spine.

Sudipta, that’s quite loaded comment. 🙂

  8. so sad….but that is the truth….

…..wonder if I will remain sane for a long time after living each day in ordeal….

  9. Prancer, what are you saying? You have to remain sane, You have to do so many things in life. Don’t even think like this.

  10. Perhaps the Shashi Kapoor’s job scene in Deewar is derived from this episode.

What left me shocking that how come he dared to call left’s bluff? He must have been on high!

  11. Madamji Alkaji,

In other post about Gurkha/Nitin you were making a hue & cry and advocating arrest of Nitin. Aren’t you now insulting PM Manmohan singh by calling him a tommy?

Talk of double standards. Most of us Indians have them !

  12. Sirji NonGurkhaji

    I’m pasting my comment again.

    >>>>>>
As for Tommy Manmohanji is concerned, I take my statement back. I have no business insulting Tommy, the canine community. It will be an honour to this spineless creature called PM if we compare him with Tommy.
