Mumbai cemetery won’t bury gunmen!

I read this today. I wonder what would be and current jihadis will say about this.

A Muslim graveyard has refused to bury nine gunmen who terrorized Mumbai over three days last week, leaving at least 172 people dead and wreaking havoc at some of its most famous landmarks.

The men are not true followers of the Islamic faith, according to the influential Muslim Jama Masjid Trust, which runs the 7.5-acre (three-hectare) Badakabrastan graveyard in downtown Mumbai.

“People who committed this heinous crime cannot be called Muslim,” said Hanif Nalkhande, a trustee. “Islam does not permit this sort of barbaric crime.”
There are seven other Muslim graveyards in Mumbai, but the Jama Masjid’s influence means none of the others are likely to accept the bodies.

  1. On a primetime show called ‘We the people’ conducted by Barkha Dutt on NDTV (Nov. 30), a humble Muslim man wept over his family which had been gunned down at CTS/VT in Mumbai.

Terrorists who target helpless, unarmed, unprepared ordinary folks (including women, the old, the ill, the handicapped and children) are monsters, regardless of which religion they claim to be ‘fighting’ for. All religious leaders should be firm about condemning and disowning them. That would go a long way to reduce their motivation-levels.

  2. it shows there are many folks among Muslims who condemns this sort of things.

  3. I wish this movement continues. Everything that I write these days are with a word “should” but I hope India has stringent laws which can punish fundamentalists and freedom of speech / action is redefined in constitution. Institutes like that of Raj, Bajrang Dal and people like Kerala CM and all others should be prosecuted.

Having said that, who would light the lamp for us? Can we be consistent and move beyond fighting over petty things..I hope as a race we have that courage and commitment. However, my fear is we are highly unorganized

  4. Teesta Setlavad and Arundhati Roy will ensure th burial in their own backyard. Even Jamia Milia’s principal too might join!

  5. That was the true and really need of the hour move by Muslim community. My heart was filled with the gratitude after I read that news in paper. They also suggested to send the bodies to Pakistan if required. Great Deed indeed!
