If you are talking about the Great Mathematician Prof Vashishtha Narayan Singh who belongs to Bihar, i had had opportunity to met him in Year 2002 at his native place called Basant pur which is nearly 80 km away from capital town Patna.Myself along with my friends had gone to his native place on a special mission BASANTPUR to take DARSHAN OF SUCH A GREAT PERSONALITY OF INDIA & we found that he doesn’t meet anyone & always keeps doing some mathmatical calculation & reserach.Somehow he had agreed to meet us & we had managed to take his snaps also which was published in next days newspaper Hindustan & Dainik Jagaran with a small article on our visit & his condition. But i don,t have latest update on him.

Yes Acharya Vashista Narayan Singh was the gem of Bhojpur.He was faculty member of not only ISI but also of UC Berkley,IIT Kanpur,TIFR etc.
There is a rumour that some envious Bengalis of ISI could not digest the fact that a person from Bihar(Bhojpur region) was the gem among them and this led to politics which led to first mental breakdown of this great saint scientist.The final nail to coffin came when his upper class socialite wife thought the saint is too intellectual and not social and divorced him.
