I can’t help smiling whenever I hear this word, senorita. Last year, I was in Rome along with my sister. We had to catch a flight back to saadi Dilli in the evening. But I had to admire my sis Mridula and Google dewta equally. With the help of these two, you can explore any city in the world, like a local!!
We had the whole afternoon to ourselves. With strong determination we got up at the crack of the dawn. We were staying at Hilton, and they made sure that you laze around and do nothing. Our determination was commendable in the backdrop of this context. We dashed towards airport and find good old Leonardo Express train there, which was ready to take us to central Rome, they call it Termini. It was more or less a two hour journey.
From Termini, my sis put her Google Dewta to work. It started showing us the route. We were determined to reach Colosseum on foot. We started traversing the lanes and by-lanes of Rome with a bit of hesitation and doubt. While on foot, we came across a small public park.My heart started sinking a bit. How can a Colosseum be cocooned inside a park. Google started saying you have reached your destination!!! A few more steps and we saw the wall of Colosseum in its full glory, standing proudly in front of us. Its Google Dewta’s habit to guide anyone to backdoor entry. We had also got the shortest backdoor entry on foot!!!!
I was so excited to take a walk inside the Colosseum. Being a student of History, it always fascinated me. I was standing in the line for security check. There someone was calling, Senorita! After a brief pause, Senorita! After a brief interval again, Senorita! The young handsome security lad was calling me to put my purse in the conveyor belt and walk myself towards the security area. But my ears, being accustomed to, Maa’m or Madam, were not responding at all to the Senorita! I was holding the line for a brief time and finally my sis nudged me, “Didi, apna purse security check ke liye rakho!” Then it dawned upon me, ‘I AM THE Senorita!!’ I said sorry to the handsome boy and put my sling bag where it was required. It seemed it was not odd for the guy and he smiled in return. But I still laugh, whenever I think of this word, Senorita.
Here is to many more such trips together!
Lovely Article Senorita Mam. First time I heard the word was Shahrukh to Kajol in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.
