I don’t have words and strength to add something of my own to this news.
Lucknow: A school principal in Uttar Pradesh was booked on Thursday for tying a five-year-old student with ropes and dragging him for nearly 50 metres for not attending school regularly, an official said.
“An FIR has been registered against the school principal Shamsad Ali for ill-treating the child Alok Gupta, studying in the kindergarten at the Mother Teresa Public School,” said officer in-charge of basic education Awadesh Kumar.
A team was sent to inquire into the incident in which Alok was tied and dragged on Wednesday and was also made to kneel down in front of the school gate for nearly two hours.
The school is in Baghuchaghat village in Deori, about 280 km from here.
According to information available, Alok was unable to attend school due to health problems, Kumar said.
Corporal punishment is banned in schools following the directions of the Supreme Court.

Whatever the post and whatever the qualifications, I am of the opinion that people should be subjected to psychometric tests before putting them in-charge of other human beings.
I agree absolutely with “Paradox’, and I have been a teacher for 27 years. In recent times, judging by the frequency of such news items, a lot of warped beasts have somehow got into this profession: they should have been trained as commandos instead, or locked up in asylums or jails.
However, I should like to balance this fact of life out by pointing out that far more teachers are going to the opposite extreme: the way children get away with every kind of rudeness, inattention, laziness and misbehaviour in school these days, it seems to me that teachers have forgotten it is their sacred duty to bring up disciplined citizens of the future. I have reason to be grateful to some teachers who caned me and boxed my ears now and then – they knew what they were doing, they were morally confident about it, and knew just where to draw the line.
These things dont really sound like a teacher giving punishment. This attitude looks like that of a self-procreated dictator trying to create his own exclusive kingdom of slaves, in this so-called civilised world.
Nowadays i find a lot of these teachers in schools in dire need of psychiatric treatment. They seem more personally frustrated that officially committed when they indulge in such acts.
Paradox, I agree with you. Sometimes I think that would be parents too should be subjected to such kinds of test.
Suvro, teaching is not a highly rated profession in our country. People enter into this field when they can’t break into some lucrative career, unlike you. 🙂 So this profession is swarming with frustrated people and they take out their frustration on helpless children. You are right in pointing out the indifference of the teachers towards students. They simply don’t bother saying what would they get in return by installing discipline and good values. They won’t bother to repay.
Hari, this news was too disturbing for me to even write a few lines on this. I simply thought that his mother and family members have enough cuddles and kisses for this little boy to lessen the impact of this horrible incident.
May be now, teaching has become so. But it was not the case 25-30 years back when people chose it as a career. Back then it was a respectable and lucrative one too.
I wonder what these teachers do now. I mean one the most effective ways to discipline is taken away from them. I could see a change in attitude in kids who feared only that.
Sometimes in life I wish I was a cop…I would put the lathi right up his ass and do a lot of unmentionables…Sometimes I really wish…
