Two Hands

I was unwrapping a shirt. It was like solving a complex maze with so many metal and plastic pins inserted at every nook and corner along with tissue paper, a thin sponge and hard board. I was thoroughly annoyed after being out for shopping. How shopping distresses people is beyond my comprehension. Or I think the salespersons in my area are from another planet, who convert shopping into a nightmare. And then, coming home and unpacking is a big deal for me. But unwrapping those packets makes me wonder that all this can’t be accomplished by machines. You need two hands to pack a shirt like this. And those two hands must take a salary back home. And that salary may be used for tuition fee for a child or an extra meal for the family or may it be that money ends up in a bank in the form of a fixed deposit for a safe future or … I consciously avoid thinking that the money may end up at a desi sharab ka theka and later the two hands may beat up a wife …

  1. :)….right said….we may conjure up a variety of tasks with just two hands and it depends on us how we do it….a combination of two hands, a right-thinking brain and a warm heart can create a beautiful atmosphere around alongwith an equally cheerful smile….right now these two hands of mine alogwith the fingers are helping me communcate with you by typing on my key-board….imagination can take you anywhere and everywhere….it depends on where you wish to go….(shakes hands with Alka ji)….trust me on this….you are a wonderful person….god bless u…spread the word with those two hard-working hands themselves…. 🙂

  2. They were two hands which attacked the world trade centre, which attacked lebanon and made lives of thousands hell.n they r the same two hands which care, nurture, write exams and proudly recieve the certificate of graduation. Lets hope the minds n hearts which dictate these two hands won’t get malignant.

  3. You can’t blame the hands, Alka… it is always the brain that does all that. Everything in life is a key, and the same key opens the door to heaven as well as to hell. Sometimes it is just difficult to discern on which doorstep you are standing.

P.S. – You don’t know the power of robots yet. That shirt can be packed a 100 times better 🙂

  4. Well as with everything in life depends on how you use them but I would rather continue to use them than go for mechanization of tasks.

Your post reminds me of the famous movie “Sholay” where both the hands of thakur were cut by Gabbar singh who became the toast of the nation. Remember “Yeh haath hum ko de de thakur….”. Creepy scene even after 30 years.

  5. Nice thought…u very well described “two hands”
these hands can bring happiness…and these hands can cause fear…distress..pain…agony…
    and again peace….
However I also agree with what Sudipta said..that “it is always the brain that does all that”..

  6. Hi Alka,

Quite an irony. One pair of hands gets money to do it and One pair of hands pays money to finally undo it. Thats the strange philisophy of life.

But both are essential for this society to evolve and survive.
