I simply feel elated when I read this news. ‘RJ who made derogatory comments could be arrested‘ And I am glad that Indian Idol III, Prashant Tamang’s fans and locals are out to teach this RJ a lesson. What I don’t feel good about is the violence part. It could have been achieved peacefully too. BUT ITS HIGH TIME WE START RESPECTING OUR OWN PEOPLE. AND IF WE CAN’T THEN BE PREPARED TO FACE THE MUSIC. The politicians are perfecting the ‘Divide & Rule’ policy’, we are not doing much to nullify these politicians’ move.

If we educated Indians can’t rise above regionalism, then what can be expected from others? I gather “educated” in today’s context means a professional degree, a job in a good company and speaking English with fake American accent and blasting Biharis, UPites, South Indians, Maharashtrians, Bengalis, Punjabis, Sardars, Haryanavis, Himanchalis, Chinkies, Gurkhas minus what you are. See where “MODERN EDUCATION” landed this RJ, Jade Goody, Danielle Lloyd…

What our “educated”, “English speaking”, “cosmopolitan” male RJ has said for a certain section of the society:

The RJ, Jonathan Brady, who is popularly known as Nitin after a programme called Ulta Pulta Nitin that he used to host on some other FM channel, apparently commented in a live broadcast that “shopkeepers will now have to make their own security arrangements as Gorkhas have taken to singing.” The remark was made on his new programme, Khurafati Nitin on Red FM.

I am glad that the “Bahadurs”, “Gurkhas” and “Chinkies” are out to teach a “hep, metrosexual, barbarian” a lesson. It will certainly be a treat watching a “disguised bhaishahib” RJ perform before the people of Darjeeling. Perhaps during schooling our “disguised bhaishahib” was too busy perfecting his English accent and couldn’t pay much attention to the fact that Gurkhas belong to world’s finest warrior class!!!

I whole heartedly stand with you Alka on this issue. The fact is few weeks ago I thought of writing a post on these super jerks RJ’s but could not as I got stuck somewhere.

These FM RJ’s are new menaces of our society. I really sometimes wonder which generation are they trying to represent. I am sure our young generation is not what these MTV or VTV produced stuff is trying to paint.

The whole of TV/FM commercials, serials, talks are based on nonsense flirt. A MP3 cd of Ghulam Ali is running in my car past couple of months as I am unable to hear the cheap chutter putter of two newly launched FM’s in my city.

The only issue they have to talk is to Flirt, of Flirt, about Flirt. These people are ashamed of their origin, color, creed, culture and nation. And their irony is that no other culture would accept them either as we very well know the racism people face outside their native places. But these blind followers just would embrace any dung from west.

A lesson is must for people like Jonathan.

yeah alka good point…these so called hep stupid RJ’s think that they know about every damn thing in the whole world…when all they have is shit in their brains…what was he thinking when he said that they would have to guard their own places tonight….nepali ppl aren’t only guards…there are intellectual ppl as well…me being a nepali myself was very offended….we are treated as outsiders in our own country…freedom of speech is his right but when used to offend a community…its assault…and he should be punished…i was so ecstatic when i read this blog about him getting arrested…it begged me to comment…..i hope that justice is served and his RJing days are over….

A RJ has much more responsibility than only providing verbal entertainment. He is also responsible for flowing healthy thoughts in the air.

The RJ’s comment on Gurkha community must be condemned. The khuraphati is neither respectful to his job nor he knows how to respect others job. What’s wrong if as security personal they have done their job well and are respected in the security forces/companies. He should know that the gurkhas are basically peace loving people and their faithfulness deserve a ton of respect.

Though in context of Indian Idol, RJ must had praised the winner. If in case, he might have felt to comment something about the community he might have told “The gurkhas are known for the best for their bravery and faithfulness, but today they have also excelled the singing arena.”

And interesting thing was the both finalist Prashant ( Nepalese ) and Amit ( Khasi ) belong to minority groups and entertained the junta to their best. And to add, their friendship was exemplary real beyond the reality show. Its the so called majority who try to make the smaller group smaller after playing with their feelings. To make the things worst, there are some unhealthy political vultures lurking around to get their part of meat.

To make a dynamic vibrant India, its time to embrace the talents beyond boundaries to the heart rather than playing with their feelings at any cost.

Hehe…Alka,I feel like writing a mini-novel’Alkaji ko gussa kyon aata hai’?But,I think it’d turn out to be an epic, looking at the people and things in our country that make you(and me) feel furious.:)

So, right now, let me say this-I’ve heard so many Indian RJs here also,in Dubai,and I think they’re paid to chatter non-stop..so,what they say,might not really be meant to be derogatory, but,instead,they might say it thinking it was funny. Perhaps we,as a people,also need to stop getting irked by such remarks-we seem to be too sensitive,sometimes.Don’t we?I mean,look at the jokes cracked at the US Presidents(Bill Clinton had books of jokes written on him)…so, where does our sense of humour disappear many times?:)

there is a difference between humour and a derogatory remark…it is a question of self-respect because a finger has been pointed towards a whole community and not a person in general…I sincerely hope you understand the feelings associated with it…moreover it is not in a closed group that this remark has been made so as to overlook it as a pun intended…its a media that was used by an individual to air such a remark which of course is no way acceptable…

please do your homework before you play down an issue…

Hi,Prancer…I stand by what I said..I don’t think any RJ’s should be taken seriously…they’re paid to prattle and that’s what they do,unmindful/unknowing of whether their so-called ‘attacks’ on particular people would cause an uproar. I hear the Dubai RJs every morning and they talk good or bad of everything under the sun,and even India and Indians..and then they burst our laughing.

As such, since we’re a democracy with freedom of the media, and freedom of our speech as well, your points are also noted. Thank you.

I dont agree with you, Alka. Nitin’s remarks was not derogatory at all, just for a little laugh.

You in particular and the Gurkhas in general dont seem to have a sense of humor. Earlier also Gurkhas /Nepalis went berserk due to so called remarks from Hritik Roshan. Do not take yourselves too seriously.

Try to learn to laugh a little on yourself. There is nothing wrong in it. Ability to laugh on oneself releases a lot of tensions & reduces blood pressure.

AmitL. as one belonging to the gurkha race, i have not given any rights to anyone, in any way, to make any sort of fun at the stake of my identity, my essence, my being. if you don’t mind being made fun of, that is your individual choice as a person. i did not make that choice, no one even asked. if asked, i’d say the same. laugh at yourself if you wish, i’ll laugh with you, but please leave me out. it is the duty, especially of those who make use of the mass media for dissemination of any (stupid!?!) ideas, to “think” about what they communicate. more so, it is the duty of the specific channel broadcasting such people to take responsibility and corrective and preventive measures.

nonGurkha. a remark made on an individual is based on that individual’s “unique” actions/opinions. esp if that individual is a public figure, any number of individuals have a right in expressing their opinions concerning the “public figure”. after all, it is an opinion. a “racial” comment is completely different ballgame. for example, i can call you “budhhu” based on your comment here, but me saying it about all NonGurkhas would most definitely be a crime, budhhu. 🙂

Praney, I agree with you. The less said about the RJs and DJs the better. Certainly they don’t represent country’s youth. I was reading India Today’s survey few months back, and it said most of the young executives wants to saty home on weekends and wants to spend time with parents, kids or friends. While the hep channels shows as if everyone is out to pubs or discs.

Prancer, I too want to be part of a forum who promotes unity. Please let me know if you start one. There is enough venom and hatred even in blogging world.

They really need to grow up and laugh at all this day in and day out. What Nitin Mia said was just the tip of the iceberg. A community was already seething with anger for the treatment meted out to them everyday in their own country.

Hi,Alka…I don’t think you got the point I was making either- it was,that most RJs should not be taken seriously…they are supposed to fill in the ‘spots’ between songs by talking nineteen-to-the-dozen, and, in the bargain,they’re not bothered about whether there’re sensitive people out there,who would prefer to be called by name, and not by ‘names’.

Anytime people on the streets make fun of people using their origin as a source, (as Alka says,the girls from the NE being referred to as ‘Chinkies’,for example)it’s time for them to take umbrage,and demand that they’re finally Indians, and do not expect racial comments.

Alka, believe me, once you stay outside our country, you’ll realize such things are of minimal importance. Imagine working, while observing people just idling around,but,they get paid thrice what you’re paid, just because God made them white?

Further,there’s a difference betwen jokes cracked with a deliberate intent to demean the person opposite,and,jokes cracked by,say RJs, who don’t really seem to have malicious intent when cracking them. What do you say?

Hi All!

Well I have been following this episode for the last 10 days. I must say that this Nitin fellow is a big ‘show off’. I went through his orkut profile and I think he is trying to be maybe Jim Carey. He wants to be funny which he isn’t. I must say that the Gurkhas are one of the most feared and dreaded warriors and are known to lay down their lives in the call of duty. He had no right or business in saying what he did. I am sure he has either left the country or is hiding somewhere deep in the country for if he isn’t, I am sure some manic gurkha or nepali will be after him with a weapon. I think the best punishment for him will be to ask him to do what he claimed that Gurkhas do, i.e. guard someone’s house or office for a week. He also forgot that the gurkhas and nepalis are also guarding the country’s eastern frontier almost single handedly (the Assam Rifles is made up of 90% gurkhas). This also makes this Nitin fellow a traitor. All I can say is that may God grant this brain dead fellow some peace!

proud to be a nepali.

nepalis are no more security gaurd, now making prashant win was also evidence of this . any shit spoken about nepalis is not at least tolerated in north east since the majority of ethnic indian nepalis reside. and due to the buereaucratic positions hold by the nepalis or gurkhas. im a mba and my sister works in topmost position in uno. is every nepali a security gaurd. sikkim is one of the nepali majority state having nepali and english as official language as well as nepali being common language in sikkim. darjiling is a gurkha council which means the place of ethnic nepalis.

there are many stong gurkha organisations in north east, which can be disastrous when challenged. nepalis are simple, nepalis you may think to be dumb, but my dear racists nepalis can be more dangerous than you may ever imagine

I agree with the point someone made above that we should stop taking ourselves too seriously. I mean its totally okay by me if you want to spend sleepless nights over a comment made by a stupid RJ, but I don’t think its worth it. As for eve teasing of NE girls, this is an issue which needs the kind of response this idiotic issue is getting.

And please don’t give me this crap about the young generation being the major culprits. We have had these proverbs and sayings for hundreds of years which stereotype a community. They have been a part of our lives since the dawn of civilization.
