At least 18 people facing serious criminal charges, including the alleged mastermind behind the leak of papers for entrance tests to management institutes, are contesting the parliamentary elections from Bihar.â€?

Or from booth capturers?
Or from rigging?
Or from antisocial elements?
Or from those who manipulate electronic voting machines?
Or from those who take bribes to switch sides?
Or from those Ministers who are issued non-bailable warrants? And our â€œRubber Stampâ€? Prime Minister doesnâ€™t know a thing about his whereabouts?
Or from those who are struggling to come clean on â€œFodder Scamâ€?, â€œTansi Dealsâ€? â€œSugar Scamâ€?, â€œUrea Scamâ€?or â€œBoforsâ€??
Or from the person who has the guts to live in Prime Minister House of India for 13-14 years without denouncing her Italian citizenship? That too under the powerful and dominating stature of Indira Gandhi ? And now she suddenly discovered her Indian side and claiming to be a staunch Indian?

Surprisingly, according to our revered Lok Sabha Speaker, Mr. Somnath Chatterjee, our Legislature is not under threat from any of the above!
The greatest threat to Indian Legislature, according to him, is from Supreme Court!

I was quite touched to know that at last there is someone, who cares for our democracy. Our badly bruised and battered democracy. At least our Lok Sabha speaker Mr. Somnath Chatterjee is up in arms to save democracy. I was thinking, soon new bills will be introduced in Parliament to debar criminals and antisocial elements for contesting elections. But I was pleasantly surprised to know that Supreme Court is the greatest threat to Indian Democracy!

Thatâ€™s the new path our so called leaders are teaching us or trying to make us believe. I often heard elders as saying â€œSupreme Courtâ€? is the only Institution in India, which has some credibility.

But India always has the likes of Somnath Chatterjee to open our eyes and set the things right. If we have few more leaders like him, that great day is not far ahead, when Supreme Court will become irrelevant and the members from Legislature will be capable enough to perform the function of Judiciary. Just like the good old days of medieval period, when the powers of legislature, executive and judiciary are confined into a single person. And Congressmen can boastfully claim, that they already have got such a person in their party!

I am not religious but I am all for truth and projection of it.

That old man has lost his head. Not that he lost it recently, but now that loss is complete. I really couldn’t his point in the whole press conference. I mean from when did Speakers started addressing press conferences and challanging Supreme Courts. I thought it was he went beyond his brief.

You raised very valid point that on the contrary, types of Laloos, and company are appearing to him as the jewels in legislature and democracy. Old man has completely lost it.

Hi,Alka.That’s another hard-hitting post.However, to understand the logic behind this perceived threat,you have to put yourself in the Speaker’s shoes,and, read’ legislature’ as standing for ‘politicians’, not the common citizens of India.You see, our honourable LS Speaker’s concern is very legitimate,from their angle.You see,all are on their seats for an uncertain period of time, so, the ‘grab-what-you-can-while-you-can’ policy is the most important policy for many politicians. And,the only real threat to this (mis)use of power is the Supreme Court, by way of it’s admonitions and it’s strict rulings, is it not?

That was the funniest and the most illogical quote ever said by any public office bearer. He should be ashamed of himself. More than these so called leaders, it is the Supreme Court which is doing the best job these days…some, even which they ought not to , but hv to due to the inabilities of the govt. Else, why shud it take a SC order for the Delhi govt to realise that the city is getting polluted?

I think he is right about ‘Supreme court is threat’ but people mis-interpret him. I believe when he said supreme court is a threat he does actually mean for politician. These goons only scared from SC; Law and order, police, EC evrybody is already in thier pocket so what left, that is SC. That’s why I think he said SC is a threat (‘for us’ is actually silent). Now-a-days u doesn’t seem very active, is everything alright. I moved to blogspot from rediff.

Interesting topic, the credibility of the supreme power of justice is not gonna go by some dumb communist speaker whoz trained to say only words which r against someone…..anyway sometimes i feel even our judiciary is getting corrupted, but then we hope and pray it never happen, nd abt bihar issue….now we can understand how many ppl from bihar got IAS

What rights did our Honourable Speaker mention, that Supreme court is infringing? Is it right to violate the Constitution or the right to blatant and vulgar abuse of power that was going on at Jharkand.

He is the biggest fool to have called for separation of Judiciary and Legislature. They are like fruits and leaves of a tree and cannot survive without each other. If Legislature is the administrative machinery of the country, then Judiciary is the Law enforcing machinery of the country. The Speaker should know that the functioning of the Legislature is also guided by the Constitution and Laws. Who is to correct them if they violate those laws. Does the Speaker want to take the Legislature, already filled with sufficient Law offenders, above all laws.

It is the legislature which enacts laws to prescribe guidelines within which it can administrate and Judiciary enforces those guidelines to monitor that Legislature and its sub-branches administrates within the prescribed legal boundaries. If Judiciary should not interfere in Legislature, then Legislature should not enact laws. Then the situation will arise where Judiciary will enact laws but would not be able to enforce it and Legislature needs to administrate the country but there would not be any guidelines or legal structure within which to do so. It is as if suggesting that brain and body function independently. Only Somnath Chatterjee
